Companies Offering Health Insurance Plans for New Mexico in 2016
When Blue Cross decided to not offer coverage in the state exchange, enrollees had to switch to one of the following options available in 2016:
- Presbyterian
- New Mexico Health Connections
- Christus
- Molina
The above carriers also limited their coverage options to exclude PPOs (even off-exchange). Celtic decided to begin offering coverage to New Mexico residents and included an option for PPO, but it was only available outside the state exchange.

Companies to Offer Health Insurance Plans for New Mexico in 2017
In 2017, one of the biggest changes for New Mexico will be that Presbyterian will move to only offering coverage off of the exchange. Blue Cross Blue Shield New Mexico is coming back after taking a year off, but they have requested a substantial rate increase. If the proposed increase is not approved, they may opt to not participate again in 2017. At this point, though, the following carriers will be available:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico
- New Mexico Health Connections
- Molina
- Christus
New Mexico Health Insurance Plan Rates to Increase in 2017
On average, the rate increases proposed by health insurance companies for New Mexico health insurance plans in 2017 are at 25%. Blue Cross Blue Shield has proposed the highest rate increase, although, the exact rate is still being determined at this time. These increases should only impact those who do not qualify for a subsidy or who decided that purchasing a plan off the exchange better suits their needs.
